About TASBO
|
An independent, not-for-profit professional
association, the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO)
is dedicated to serving as the recognized source of accurate, objective
school business and operations information, educating its diverse membership and constituency in
professional best practices, and
promoting high standards of conduct and professional ethics in the
industry.TASBO is one of the state
and province affiliates of the Association of School Business Officials
International
(ASBO Intl.) which serves members from the United States, Canada, and more
than 20 other nations.
Established in 1946, TASBO began as a
forum for exchanging ideas and sharing information about school business
operations in Texas. In the early years, TASBO was operated by
volunteers throughout the state, but as the Association’s membership and
services grew, a center of operations was founded in Austin in 1986.
TASBO celebrated the opening of its new Austin headquarters located at
2538 South Congress Avenue in August 2000.
Currently, TASBO has approximately 4,500
members and 25 regional affiliates, representing more than 850 school
districts in Texas.
Organizational Structure
The Association operates under the leadership of an executive
director with the guidance of a 13-member Board of Directors including
four Officers. All are veteran school business and operations
administrators. Currently, there are 12 full time and 4 part time staff members employed at the
Austin headquarters.
Education & Training
In addition to disseminating data and providing a wealth of ideas and
information to its members, TASBO works closely with other professional,
governmental, and business groups to initiate and assist with programs
that enhance the knowledge and competence of school business executives.
As a professional association, TASBO develops and presents education
workshops and training sessions to ensure the highest standards of
school business and operations management practices, ethics, and professional growth.
Research Committees
TASBO is organized on the volunteer committee principle with 14
research committees and two standing committees serving as the basic,
fundamental force within the Association. Committee members continually
investigate and plan toward better business management of schools and
effective use of educational resources.
Regional Affiliates
At this time, there are 25 regional TASBO
affiliates in Texas. Affiliates are local organizations or specialty
groups (such as Maintenance and Operations) which subscribe to the same
mission and purpose as TASBO, i.e. to advance the profession through
education, communication, recognition, information, and innovation.
Regional affiliate meetings provide excellent personal and professional
development programs in addition to networking opportunities with others
in school business and operations. To locate the affiliate in your area,
visit the TASBO Web site.
Specialized
Services
Management consulting services
are offered by TASBO. As school districts are required to be more
efficient and effective in financial accountability and management
performance, it is important to identify the strengths and weaknesses of
school business operations and/or selected district services. In fact,
TASBO review teams have identified millions of dollars in savings for
school districts throughout the state.TASBO consultants have the
broad expertise and relevant experience to help school districts answer
critical management and organizational questions. As a team, they
provide honest, unbiased evaluations, offer practical recommendations,
and assist school officials in implementing improvements. Going beyond
dollars and cents, their analysis focuses on successful operations in
addition to service levels, expectations of taxpayers and school boards,
management, and accountability.
State Funding Consultation
Whether you need verification of your state aid calculations or an
evening training session for the Board of Trustees on how state funding
works, TASBO can provide that expertise. Fees for evaluations and
consultations are based on the size and the needs of the district.
Legislative Information Pipeline
TASBO, in cooperation with the Austin
consulting firm of Moak, Casey & Associates, LLP, provides
subscribers of the Legislative Information Pipeline Service with
detailed analytical information regarding the potential effects of
legislative actions. This timely information enables school
officials to communicate effectively and make sound decisions regarding
finances, new programs, accountability, and possible changes in the
school revenue structure.
